Art Demos is hosting a new “Art of the Gelli” online workshop.  Ever since I was first introduced to this new way of monoprinting, I can’t seem to get enough Gelli!  Next up is a NEW class of Gelli Plate Printmaking called “A Gelli, Gelli Christmas”.  I’ll show you ways to make simple Christmas gifts directly from the Gelli plate…no paper printing involved!  Stay tuned to Art Demos for full details coming soon.  While you’re there…join and take a peek at some of the FREE tutorials I have for you!  ~Cat

Kim Klaussen’s Texture Tuesdays

Having lived through my husband’s cancer and now the aftermath of his debilitating stroke I know what it’s like to live that part of the vow : ‘for better or worse, in sickness & in health’.  But even living with my own burden does not mean I can pretend to understand what Kim is dealing with right now.  Her beloved husband John is undergoing cancer treatments which means they must be many miles from their home.  He must endure countless days of pain and Kim must live through her own kind of pain.  BUT…through it all she remains strong and vigilant with her blog and workshops…and that, my friends, takes a special kind of woman.  So for Kim & John I dedicate this week’s Texture Tuesday’s photo.

Altered with Kim’s texture: “Enlightened” as well as many of my own overlays.  If you’re a photographer and you haven’t tried altering photos with textures may I suggest that you stop over and join Kim’s Texture Tuesdays.  And in today’s post get a peek at her long awaited Waterfront Texture collection!

We’re still recovering from super storm Sandy and as we head into the last of October 2013, I think back on October 29, 2012 when we were cut off from the world. No one knew how badly we’d been hit for almost two weeks…no internet, radio or tv…but finally we saw…and were horrified. This is just a small tribute from a wonderful singer to the still recovering Jersey Shore…but we’re Jersey boys & girls…AND…we are JERSEY STRONG!

Gelli Arts Printing plate workshop is LIVE!! Whew!!! It’s always a relief when videos are ‘in the can’. Tomorrow my latest workshop…Art of the Gelli is supposed to begin but it’s Sunday and I thought I’d give the 35 members of the class a treat and let them get started on the Day One vids. Tomorrow I’ll start on the next class…A Gelli Gelli Christmas. It’s a great pleasure being able to teach on line at Art Demos And since I’m addicted to the Gelli Arts gelli printing plate it’s an excuse to spend days in the studio…practicing!

If you are a Gelli fan too…why not join us at Art Demos ? We can always use one more addict.

These are the result of last night’s late evening finishing up the videos for my upcoming workshop “Art of the Gelli-Part 2”. I’ll be introducing a way to make ART on the GElli Arts plate…not just the 18.2 lbs. of papers I made for the last workshop. I now have what I would consider ART that can be matted and framed and all with a little help from some common elements in most folks studios. I also have a special offer going on for members of Art Demos. A $10 discount on this workshop and special pricing if you purchase both workshops together. So pop over and see what’s new at artdemos.com. Thanks for stopping by…feel free to leave a comment or ask a question!

Busy, busy, busy working in the studio this weekend on Art of the Gelli Part Two 🙂  for Art Demos.  I’m actually glad that I didn’t get in to record when I had planned because in the interim I worked out a glitch that had been bugging me!  Now I’m ready and set to go!  Will emerge on Sunday evening and perhaps have some screen shots of what I’ve accomplished thus far!  This second part is going to ROCK!!!

I had no idea how much the #GelliArts plate could actually do once you started thinking outside the box!  I’ve got so many ideas that this may actually lead to a FULL YEAR OF CLASSES!!!  Anyone up for a “Year with the Gelli & Friends”?  I’ve got some great projects that have come out of my experimenting…enough to fill a once a month class for the year of 2014!  I’m thinking that students who are already members of the classes should get a discount on a year’s worth of workshops so stay tuned…It’s possible that A YEAR WITH THE GELLI & FRIENDS could become a possibility 🙂

If you have specific ideas for what you’d be interested in learning…I hope that you will let us all know.  You can either do it in the Forum section of artdemos or join Cat’s Playhouse on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/CatsPlayhouse/and express your desires to LEARN.

Just an FYI y’all…there are 857 members of artdemos but a minute fraction of you ever interact with us 😦  I’m not sure why but I’m making a promise to you all…right here, right now…if there is something that YOU want to LEARN just ask me!  I have been experimenting with art forms and craft techniques since 1963.  If I don’t know how to do it…it hasn’t yet been invented so let’s invent on Art Demos

Art of the Gelli – Part Two

As with any new art form there is a learning curve.  Some people are satisfied with staying inside the box once that learning curve is hit, while others (myself included) always want to see how far they can push the envelope.  And so it is with the latest craze…the GelliArts printing plate.

Many artists are using this plate with stencils & stamps and are happy with what they’re producing.  Since I bore easily I took it upon myself to explore…to see just how far I could push it.  That resulted in a series of video workshops on Art Demos called “Art of the Gelli”.  Part one debuted August 1st.  Part two starts October 21st.  The third and final one will be up and running in early 2014.

For right now, I’m happy creating interesting prints with an old process called collography.  In this new workshop I’ll be showing how to make printing plates that will create prints that can be hand colored with a variety of media or left plain and enjoyed for what they are…an interesting monochromatic print.
